Time for a new Life!

Logo is copyrighted © by Linden LabsI bet you have no idea what I’m talking about, or maybe you think you do, but you don’t! You see, I’ve been playing online RPG’s (Role Playing Games), or MMO’s as most people call them, for about 4 years now. About a year ago, I started to get into a game called Second Life, which is an online MMOS (Massive Multiplayer Online Simulation) in where you start your ’second life’. Well at the time of starting this new game it really sucked, for me anyhow. There were no servers close to my area, and my computer was nowhere up to par to play this new technology, not to mention playing on dial-up.

Well it’s now 2008 and I now have a nice Dell Laptop that can run this. I’m now playing second life and designing my own house. I’ve tried to make something a few times but it only leads to deletion. Well to start off, I’ve ditched about $48.00 into this game just in linden dollars, not to mention the $22 I’m going to be paying quarterly.

So why am I blogging about SL? Well to tell you the truth, I don’t know, the game is great, I can fly anywhere I want, build what I want, and put my texturing and 3D skills to use. Needless to say, I am starting a store now and hope to have customers soon, but this takes time and I understand that. My plan with SL is to make it yet another project…. yes I know, I already have RM on the back burner sizzling away. I don’t know how to approach something of this magnitude but when I do, I’ll keep you updated.
Thanks for reading :)

Want to be an author?

Ever wanted to write something on my blog about tech, web design, graphic design, or anything in between? Well now is your chance, for the rest of this year I am opening my doors to the public, well sorta, to write articles related to web design, graphic design, technology, and the like. I am giving you the chance to rant, rave, and do whatever you want within reason of course. You know the theme of my blog, you know what it’s purpose is, so write about it. I’m looking to find authors with a sound technical sense and elevated intelligence.

Every new user as of June 18, 2008 will still be considered a subscriber. If you sign up and would like to become an author just send me a message or email on the contact page and I will make you a contributor. Now as a contributor you will only be able to make posts and publish them. I of course will moderate them and any improper posts will be deleted or put on hold. Of course if I see you making great posts I will be upping your status to Author with a slew of new features. Anyhow, if you’re interested just sign up and send me an email.

Red Mantis - Feature Idea

Well I was sitting here eating my Wendy’s meal and thinking about Red Mantis. Well I notice a lot of portfolio websites like to show off with Flash. I know you can load external variables with Flash, especially ActionScript 3.0

So my question to you is what if you wanted to do a flash navigation or header for your own template, then you would need to pull the pages data from the database and input it into the Flash file, so quite possibly you could export the database information either into an ActionScript (.as) format or to a flat file (.txt) then input the variables into the flash. Now in my opinion, I wouldn’t want to export all posts to a flat file and then input all that information into a flash file so maybe just the navigation to make animated headers…

NOTE: This is just an idea, not a confirmed feature

Red Mantis - Update

Well a small update on the project status. Previously I was boasting about using ADOdb, which by my standards was a good idea. About a week ago from today, I started delving into the ADOdb API, needless to say it’s way to freggin’ large, so I’m using the lite version now ( ADOdb Lite ). I’ve been programming the registration page for a few days now, off and on a bit, and second guessing myself on my own programming methods. Questions like, “should I make this into a function or place it in another file” are common in my head at the moment.

Project Red Mantis

Red mantis login pageYes it’s true, I have embarked on a wild journey into CMS stardom. Needless to say, I really don’t know where to begin. For years I’ve looked for the right software to simply do an online portfolio, or ePortfolio/eFolio, that was simple to design, setup, and manage. Well I obviously never found that software, granted yes, I have found some software, but it’s either stripped down bare necessities or it’s just not what I want. Some friends of mine over at LinkedIn suggested that I simply use, “WordPress with custom theme and plug-ins” (Azizur Rahman) Why not? Well the real reason is I want something that belongs to me, I want something free, I want simplicity, I want something written by my fingers, the blood on my keyboard, I want it made my way.
